2 A Chat About Chad—Humphrey
thinks we ought to be getting all gung-ho about stopping Qadhafi
in Chad. We could get more interested if the Administration were
not trying to stop him for all the wrong reasons.
4 Sudan: Oil Spurs Investment—Oil
is a useful commodity for its own sake, in a developing country
like Sudan. But it also has spinoff value, when foreign investors
think it will put the country in a better position to pay its bills.
5 Lobby Activities—An
agreement reached recently between the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination
Committee and a New York publisher should please Arab Americans—since

Middle East. For their part, some pro-Israel groups have been working
to beef up support for Israel on America's campuses, and have organized
seminars and trips to Israel to help achieve that goal.

2 Editorial—Israelis used to scoff at Lebanon's

their failure to keep order in the Lebanese territory they control.
We give two examples.

7 Book Review—If
you're looking for a scholarly book on modern Oman, read Frank Clements's
Oman, The Reborn Land. Our reviewer believes it fills in many chinks
even in the knowledge of specialists about Oman's early days, and
also gives you a play-by-play of that country's rapid development
during the past dozen years.
8 Personality—Sometimes
a new organization needs an extra push to give it momentum. And
that's just what the Arab American Cultural Foundation got when
it hired a young Arab American woman, Claudette Shwiry, to be its
executive director a year ago. |
