Washington Report, May/June 1998

Front Cover: Israeli border policeman restrains Jehad Samhan as an Israeli bulldozer demolishes her Palestinian family’s home in the West Bank village of Ras Karkar on Feb. 3, 1998. The official reason for this and hundreds of similar demolitions of Palestinian houses in the West Bank and East Jerusalem in recent months is that they were built without a permit. However, Israeli authorities have issued virtually no building permits to the  one-and-a-half million Palestinian residents of these areas in the last 31 years since they were seized by Israeli military forces in the June ‘67 war.
