The Palestine Aid Society will hold its Third Annual Walkathon,
a 10-kilometer fundraising and solidarity march, on Saturday, June

NEW US AMBASSADOR NAMED
President Bush has named Mary Ann Casey, a career foreign service
officer from Colorado, to succeed Christopher W.S. Ross as US ambassador
to Algeria. Casey is currently deputy assistant secretary for regional
analysis at the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research.
She has previously served as director of North African Affairs at
the State Department and as political officer at the US Embassy
in Tunisia.

some 1,000 grants for research and/or university lecturing, are

The Institute for Palestine Studies (IPS) is offering $5,000 for
the doctoral dissertation written in English on the Arab-Israeli
conflict or Palestinian affairs that best suits the IPS publishing
program, with the winning entry to be published by IPS. For details

SUMMER SESSIONS
The Arabic Language and Culture Institute offers a three phase
program for students entering grades 11-13. Phase I is a six week
semi-immersion summer program held June 26-Aug.7 at the Northfield
Mt. Hermon School in Northfield, MA; Phase II is an independent
study follow up program for the 1991-92 academic year; and Phase
III is a six week summer program in the Middle East (this year in
Cairo) under the auspices of the Critical Languages and Area Studies
