Dressed in black and holding signs reading “War is Terror,” “We Refuse to Be Enemies,” “Support Our Peacemakers” and “Mothers Are Grieving in Israel and Palestine,” 25 members of Bay Area Women in Black stood silently in San Francisco’s Union Square the Friday after Thanksgiving. With there being no end in sight to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the Palestinians still living under a 60-year Israeli occupation, the group feels the need more than ever to continue its seven-year tradition to remind holiday shoppers there are areas of the world where people suffer the horrendous effects of war and occupation.
