“Just Tell Us”

This past weekend, Dec. 10, at the Jerusalem Fund’s Annual Souk & Olive Harvest Celebration, as we sold books, DVDs, Christmas cards, embroidery and pottery, we also talked to many of our subscribers. We told them what you’ll soon read in the January/February Washington Report’s publishers’ page: Our magazine is in serious jeopardy after a disappointing response to our bi-annual donation appeal. A few shoppers at the souk said they never received our November donation appeal in the mail and others thought it was a renewal notice.

“Just tell us,” longtime subscribers said, as they we shared our worries. “Washington Report readers will come through. We always do.”

Consider this a call-out to our readers—our loyal subscribers, our friends who read the Washington Report online, and those of you who value our free action alerts. We need your donations, tax-free or not, before 2012. We need at least $35,000 just to pay the printer for the issue that our printer is mailing today.

We will try to stop the hemorrhage by cutting at least one issue next year and, probably, cancelling free copies to mosques, churches and conferences around the country. We’ll still provide the information on which our readers depend, and plan also to focus more on making our Web site, <www.wrmea.com>, a superlative go-to place for news.

We think you’ll agree that it’s appalling that former House speaker Newt Gingrich, the Republican’s front-running nominee for president, can get away with calling Palestinians “invented people” or say “The Palestinian claim to a right of return is based on a historically false story.” The possible future president is claiming: “These people are terrorists. They teach terrorism in their schools.”  It is not OK to pander to one group of voters while slandering another.

During the upcoming elections, when the badly needed information packed in each issue of the Washington Report should be reaching more readers than ever, we are asking for your feedback, ideas, subscriptions and most critically—your donations.

Help us be here to celebrate our 30th birthday in April 2012. Make sure the Washington Report gets in voters’ hands, as well as on lawmakers’ desks and library and bookstore shelves—and, of course, in your mailboxes or computers for another decade or two. We hope you’ll dig deep in your pockets and make as generous an end-of-year donation as you can. Let’s renew our dedication to liberty and justice for all as we continue to…

Make a Difference Today.
