Contemporary Arab Cinema

The 16th Annual Arabian Sights Film Festival returns with another exceptionally vibrant collection of new films from the Arab World. This year we are delighted to focus on Egyptian Cinema by featuring five entertaining works cutting across all genres and subjects. Films are Washington, DC and American premieres and are screened with English subtitles. This year’s selection includes:

  • 18 DAYS, Egypt, *American Premiere* — 2011 Cannes Film Festival Official Selection
  • 6,7,8, Egypt — Winner Best Actress and Best Actor at the Dubai International Film Festival
  • BALLS, Sweden, *East Coast Premiere* — Official selection at the Doha-Tribeca and Seattle International Film Festivals

  • AN IDEAL FAMILY, Egypt, *American Premiere*
  • THE ITALIAN, France
  • MAN WITHOUT A CELL PHONE, Palestine/France/Israel
  • MICROPHONE, Egypt. Winner Best Arab Film, Cairo Film Festival
  • OPERATION CASABLANCA, Switzerland/Canada, *American Premiere*
  • ROUGH HANDS, Morocco, *American Premiere* Opening Night Film — Official Selection at the Toronto International Film Festival
  • SIRA: SONGS OF THE CRESCENT MOON, Switzerland, — *East Coast Premiere*

WHY: The Arabian Sights Film Festival showcases films that demonstrate the range and commitment of Arab directors who tell moving stories while exploring issues facing their region. A number of directors will be present at their screenings. Arabian Sights is a community event that highlights the cinema of a region often overlooked in mainstream American theaters.

WHEN: October 27- November 6, 2011

 

WHERE: Our Opening Night Event will be held at The Embassy of France (4101 Reservoir Road, NW Washington, DC). All other screenings and receptions will be held at the AMC Mazza Gallerie (5300 Wisconsin Avenue, NW Washington, DC) and the Goethe Institut-Washington (812 7th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001. Gallery Place Metro Station)

 

COST: $11 per person unless otherwise noted. Discount Package – 10 tickets for $95 (not including special events). All tickets can be purchased on our website or at Missiontix.com. Advanced purchases subject to small convenience fee.
